THE GEEKLY UPDATE (12/28)

It’s always sad to see the fantasy football season come to a sudden end. The 2010 campaign brought us several surprises, including big busts, new household names and a whole lotta Michael Vick. Here, at TheFantasyGeek.com, we believe head-to-head fantasy seasons should end prior to the last week of games. You shouldn’t suffer in your Fantasy Super Bowl just because Tom Brady may not play after halftime. So we don’t really cater to leagues that have their finals in Week 17. Not that I want to ignore a fantasy owner in need. It’s just that I’m not going to encourage such an antiquated practice by going into depth on the Week 17 games from a fantasy perspective. Some site (not mentioning any names, ESPN) need to revisit their rules and not try to milk every last game on the schedule when it weakens the overall league. With that typed, if you have a Week 17 question, I’ll be happy to give you the personal touch. Just email me at thefantasygeek@gmail.com.

Anyway, that’s my long-winded reason for doing the fantasy football wrap-up stuff this week. I’ve already begun putting an exclamation point on the season with The Geeky® Awards, and now I’ll finish the job in this week’s Geekly Update. While I scoff at leagues that count Week 17, let’s get going with the… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE

THE GEEKLY UPDATE (12/22)

‘Tis the season for fantasy frustration. Unless, of course, you’re the one person in your league who clutches the trophy. Everyone else is left kicking themselves or cursing the studs that let them down. I’m doing a little bit of both. It’s healthy to get it off your chest. That’s why I created the Fantasy Finger. So all of you Adrian Peterson and Anquan Boldin owners, click here and let ‘er rip. I did advance to the finals in one league, and I’m totally tuned in to the buzz-worthy reports that are popping up this week. I told some playoff tales in this week’s  Gettin’ Geek’d. Now, I’ll complement that with the injuries, free agents and streaking players you need to know about heading into (what should be, for all legitimate leagues,) the final week of the fantasy football season. But first, you know it, you love it, the… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE

THE GEEKLY UPDATE (12/15)

Are you still alive? In your fantasy football playoffs, I mean. If so, or if you’re still reading along wondering what could’ve been, I’m throwing a double dose of gridiron goodness at you like a Mike Vick laser. (Okay, so with my torn labrum, maybe it’s more like a Jake Delhomme wounded duck.) You can check out the first installment of playoff advice in this Week’s Getting’ Geek’d column. But if that’s not enough for you, The Geekly Update’s got even more pigskin pointers. Keep reading for injury updates, last-minute pickups, who’s hot, who’s not and more. Plus, I’ll fill you in on how The Geek’s teams are doing and the “celebrity” encounter I had last week. But I can’t get to any of that without leading off with the… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE

THE GEEKLY UPDATE (12/8)

Congrats to all the owners who made the playoffs!

Lotsa drama out of the way after Week 13 in fantasy football leagues. Well, if you’re in a big league. Those of you in 10-teamers may need to stick it out for one more game to reach the postseason. In honor of the impending fantasy playoffs, I’m going all football this week. (Even though the stats show that we get more visitors for the hoops stuff.) I have to get all this bottled-up football advice out of my system. But I’ll hit all the big sports with the headlines in this week’s… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE

THE GEEKLY UPDATE (12/1)

Big week in the National Football League. We had a top running back go down. A top wide-receiver throw down. And another Buffalo Bills letdown. I’ll cover the fantasy implications as you head into all-important Week 13. Plus, I’ll mix in a little fantasy hoops stuff. I’m just a few weeks away from transitioning The Geekly Update from gridiron to hardwood. For now, I’ve gotta focus on football, since we’re in crunch time. So keep reading to see who’s hurt, who’s hot and who’s not. But first, let’s crank it up with the… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE!

THE GEEKLY UPDATE (11/24)

The revolving door of fantasy football writers here at TheFantasyGeek.com has spun around again. Yes, Major Gray has followed in the footsteps of Sammy Crano by ending his tour of duty with us midseason. Major’s surplus of content and his verve for fantasy sports will be missed. You can still read his work on Geekweek.com. He just grew frustrated with the paltry page views we’ve been getting around here lately. When you’re posting as often as he did, it’s understandable why a flat-lining stats page would cause him to call it quits. But fear not, loyal reader. The Geek is here for you. I’ll keep you in the loop about who’s hurt, who’s hot and who’s not. While I focus on football to fill the void, Si’s got all you hoopheads covered with the fantasy basketball stuff. So why it’s a sad week for the site, we’re still thankful to have the opportunity to entertain and inform you on everything fantasy sports. We’re ready to plow ahead like Mike Tolbert against the Denver defense on Monday Night Football. One more note. I’m trimming down the Geekly Update a bit. It’s time Gettin’ Geek’d had its own spotlight, so I’m turning that feature into a separate column. But I’m still kicking things off with… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE!
