ONE LAST RANDOM DELUSIONAL THOUGHT ON THE NBA PLAYOFFS

By Si Korot, Associate Editor

Kobe's just sittin' there waitin' for it all to start on Thursday... or is he hangin' out in Beijing. I'm confused!

The NBA Finals begin on Thursday, featuring the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. Somewhere in the NBA executive offices, NBA Commish David Stern is licking his chops, anticipating the advertising revenue and television ratings from so glorious and storied a series match up. For those still playing in NBA Fantasy Playoff Hoops contests, hoping to come away with the prize of an SUV or a high-def television, there certainly are a lot of name players to throw out there in this one.

As the Fantasy Geek has been quick to repetitively remind me, on our most recent podcast, I picked Orlando and Phoenix to make it to the NBA Finals. I was wrong! So with that in mind, I choose the Lakers to beat Boston in seven, but certainly hope I am incorrect again, as this is perhaps the last opportunity for the Boston “Big Three” of Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to win a championship as a unit. What can I say… I’m sentimental that way. But the Lakers are a strong, good team, with home court advantage to boot and apparently, based on what we’ve seen so far in the playoffs, match up with any team’s style.

The Celtics have been an underdog in every series and continue to be, especially if Ron Artest does what he is paid to do and slows down Pierce. All season I heard justification about how Artest was an upgrade over dispatched team player Trevor Ariza, because in a big time playoff series, Artest could guard anyone… The Lakers will need quality out of injured, maligned center Andrew Bynum, as the Celtics play more of the type of game he does than the Suns did. Rajon Rondo should keep the Lakers on their toes, but in the end, the offensive one-two punch of Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol are just too much for the Celtics to deal with.

  1. Go Lake Show! Go!

  2. Nice, I hope you jinxed them with this post. I think I’m going to have to write a pro Laker post, so I can hopefully jinx them. Although, I think I’ve done that nearly every round and it hasn’t worked…
